Our nursery is a recent conversion of an old chapel. The interior has been transformed into a state-of-the-art nursery, with anti-allergy flooring and rooms specially designed for different age groups and activities. On the ground floor are our Starlight and Sunshine rooms, and outside play area. On the first floor are our 2 Rainbow Rooms, Sensory Room, and Organic kitchen.

At First Learning, we have places for children from the ages of 3 months to 5 years old. We are open from 8am to 6 pm Monday to Friday. Morning sessions are from 8am to 1.30pm and afternoon sessions are from 1.30pm to 6pm.

Before starting at First Learning, parents will be allocated a ‘Keycarer’, a qualified member of staff assigned to the family and responsible for settling-in and liaising with parents on a daily basis. The settling in period usually commences two weeks prior to the start date, but this may be more or less depending on the child’s and the parents needs. During this time, parents can attend nursery with their child and gradually prepare for their child’s first day.

This is our room for babies aged between three and twelve months old. During these first months they will be developing their senses and skills, becoming more mobile, and learning to communicate. Our Starlight Room follows the ‘Birth To 3 Matters’ framework and is fully equipped with stimulating toys to encourage these early stages of learning through play.

In addition to the heated floor the room is fitted with special carpet which is approved by Allergy UK. Self contained within the Starlight room is a dedicated stainless steel milk kitchen, a nappy changing room and a sleep room. Starlight Room has a strict ‘shoes-off’ policy.

Our toddlers, aged between 12 months and 2 years old, also have a specially-designed room to meet their growing needs and follow the ‘Birth To 3 Matters’ framework.
They enjoy making full use of the art area for painting and play dough, quiet time for a story, or dressing up in the home corner. The Sunshine Room is fitted with a magnificent folding wall, allowing ‘free flow’ play between this room and the garden, a safe environment to play in and out -of -doors. Within Sunshine Room is its own nappy change and children’s bathroom.

There are two separate rooms for our children aged two to five years that can be interconnected via folding doors allowing freedom of movement with a variety of space and social activity within the groups. Rainbow 1 is for children aged 2 to ‘just-turned’ 3 years old and follows the ‘Birth To 3 Matters’ framework. Rainbow 2 is our ‘pre-school’ room for children from three to five years old, working towards the Early Learning Goals within the Foundation Stage curriculum, still with the emphasis on learning through play.

Rainbow Rooms have a dedicated area for computers and creative play and we run time- tabled activities based on an interesting theme each month.

Our children have great fun playing outside in the ‘all weather garden’. This is a clean and safe play area, where children feel secure. The garden is partially enclosed by the main roof, enabling outdoor play regardless of the weather. Here, children can play with sand and water, balls and hoops tend the plants and enjoy outdoor play all year round.
