We first opened our doors in January 2004 and continue to build upon our strong reputation of delivering first class childcare. Our nursery has been converted from an old parish chapel built in 1879. The exterior architecture remains true to its origins; internally however, our converted chapel building provides a state-of-the art nursery facility. Our premises have extensive security systems in place inside and out, which accord with our strong child-protection and safety policies.
Each room is specifically designed and tailored to meet the needs of each age group and equipped with toys, books and creative play utensils to stimulate every child’s imagination. Anti-allergy flooring is standard throughout; our ground floor rooms have underfloor heating for extra comfort for little hands and feet. Freeflow interconection between rooms on each floor allows for varied play and interaction.
The internal environment is heated and cooled with the very latest air systems, which also assist in the control of allergies. All of the internal walls and doors have special glass vision panels to optimise natural light and visibility. Exciting light and colours are the theme throughout and we are fully equipped with resources to encourage learning through play. We have a ‘Low-Plastics Policy’ when purchasing nursery toys and equipment; where possible will always choose an alternative, natural material.
Inside our Nursery
First Learning has a special part-covered garden which is secure and entirely child-friendly. It allows freeflow intergration between the rooms and outside play in all weathers. All children including babies benefit from regular outside activities. They are taken for walks to feed the ducks, visit local parks, visit places of interest to support learning topics and access other local facilities, where children have the use of a playground, play equipment and gardens.
Meeting the Team
Our staff are selected not only for their qualifications and experience but also for their personality and attributes. We like to offer our children a stimulating yet calm environment; being cared for by special individuals who totally support our ethos. Naturally every member of staff will be cleared by the CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) enhanced check. In addition to this we have our own extra security measures such as our Vetting and Barring Scheme and our policy of having two member of staff at any one time in each room, with at least one member being NVQ trained. All personal and employment references are also diligently investigated. Safeguarding children and their welfare are of major importance and we promote continuing professional development and enhancement for all staff.
