…and every morsel is organic, nutritious and of course really tasty. We are passionate about our food and our proud to be the first certified Organic Children’s Nursery in the United Kingdom.
What does ‘ORGANIC’ mean?
  1. SAFE SCRUTINISED FOOD
  2. Genetically Modified Ingredients are not allowed
  3. Artificial chemicals, pesticides, fertilisers and soil treatments which can pollute the soil, water and crops are not allowed
  4. NO Artificial additives, preservatives, flavourings, colourings, sweeteners or enhancers
  5. Animal welfare is strictly protected
  6. Animal feed is strictly controlled (thereby restricting the chemicals that are able to pass to humans through the food chain)
  7. NO chemicals and drugs are included in animal feed such as growth hormones and antibiotics
  8. Organic food tastes better! (ok that is our opinion, but try an organic egg and see if you can’t taste the difference)

Being registered and licensed as Organic by the Soil Association (S A Certification) the UK’s largest and arguably most stringent organic certification body is a very important status with many responsibilities. This means menus, ingredients lists, cleaning materials, preparation and hygiene schedules are rigorously checked by the Soil Association to make sure that we are doing exactly what we have promised. First Learning goes above and beyond the Soil Association’s requirements and everything we use is Organic or ‘wild caught’ in the case of some fish. We will never substitute a non-organic ingredient for an organic one.

Of course we believe that all food should be organic and we should not have to ‘choose’ and hopefully one day it will be. Organic food is widely available these days and there really is no excuse for private children’s nurseries to be serving anything else. Young children have largely undeveloped immune systems and the potential damage which the cocktail of chemicals currently used in the growing and processing of most non-organic foods cannot be quantified.
